In a major relief for thousands of holiday travelers, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) announced that petrol will be available without the weekly QR-based rationing for the next seven days. This decision, effective from April 11 to April 18, aims to prevent heavy congestion at fuel stations as families travel across the country for the festive season.
While the QR system is suspended for petrol, officials clarified that the quota system for diesel remains unchanged and in full effect. CPC Managing Director Mayura Netthikumarage stated that fuel stocks are currently sufficient to meet the seasonal surge. Additionally, a shipment of 30,000 metric tonnes of furnace oil is expected to arrive tomorrow to ensure an uninterrupted power supply during the holidays. Travelers are advised to plan their journeys early to avoid peak-hour traffic at major pumping stations.
