Sri Lanka's Consumer Affairs Authority has warned that a social-media advertisement listing prices for a wide range of medical tests was not issued by the Authority.
The CAA says the listed prices for tests including FBS, RBS, HbA1c, lipid profile, liver and renal function tests, CRP, CT, MRI, ultrasound, mammography and DEXA should not be interpreted as maximum charges prescribed by the Authority.
The CAA identified existing maximum charges for four tests:
- Full Blood Count (FBC): Rs.400, including the report;
- Dengue NS1 Antigen: Rs.1,200, including the report;
- COVID-19 PCR: Rs.6,500;
- COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test: Rs.2,000.
The FBC and Dengue NS1 limits were prescribed through Extraordinary Gazette No. 2186/17 of July 29, 2020, while the COVID-19 test limits were prescribed through Extraordinary Gazette No. 2240/30 of August 12, 2021.
The clarification therefore does not introduce a new set of price controls. Its purpose is to correct misleading information circulating online.
