Rs.7.148 Billion Hospital Expansion to Add Major Cardiac Complexes in Anuradhapura and Trincomalee

Sri Lanka is preparing to begin four major hospital-development projects with a combined reported investment of Rs.7.148 billion, including new cardiac complexes in Anuradhapura and Trincomalee.

Foundation-stone ceremonies are scheduled for September 16.

The projects include:

  • a Rs.3.545 billion cardiac complex at Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital;
  • a Rs.2.403 billion cardiac complex at Trincomalee District General Hospital;
  • a Rs.600 million facility at Mannar; and
  • a Rs.600 million facility at Mullaitivu.

The Anuradhapura and Trincomalee developments are supported through Japanese assistance/JICA-related support, while the Mannar and Mullaitivu developments use Indian assistance, according to the Government information underlying the programme.

Project status

The four projects are due to commence. The facilities are not complete or already treating patients, and the full Rs.7.148 billion is not represented as already spent.
