Sri Lanka's Cabinet has approved the implementation of 39 new health-sector development projects from 2027.
The proposal was presented by Health and Mass Media Minister Dr Nalinda Jayatissa.
The projects are intended to address infrastructure shortages in hospitals and other government health institutions while developing facilities in line with modern health-service requirements.
According to Government information, 41 new development proposals submitted during 2025 and 2026 were evaluated by the National Planning Department.
Following that assessment, 39 projects were selected for implementation.
The projects are intended to be incorporated into the 2027–2031 Public Investment Programme.
Necessary financial provisions are expected to be considered through the 2027 Budget process.
Cabinet approval therefore establishes Government approval to proceed with the programme, but it does not mean that all 39 projects are already fully funded, contracted or under construction.
