Sri Lanka is participating in the 79th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia, being held in Dili, Timor-Leste, from September 7 to 10.
The Regional Committee is the World Health Organization's governing body for the South-East Asia Region and meets annually to consider regional health priorities, policies and programmes.
Health ministers and senior officials from countries across the region are attending the four-day meeting.
Sri Lanka's delegation is being led by Health and Mass Media Minister Dr Nalinda Jayatissa, according to current Health Ministry-attributed reporting.
Key issues
WHO says the meeting will focus on major regional health priorities including equitable access to specialised healthcare, strengthening health-workforce capacity, accelerating efforts to end tuberculosis, digital health, artificial intelligence in health, resilient healthcare facilities and other measures to strengthen health systems.
The discussions take place against the background of major differences in access to specialist services and health workers across the region.
Regional cooperation is intended to help countries develop common approaches while adapting implementation to their own health systems.
Decisions remain pending
The meeting begins on September 7 and runs through September 10.
Proposed declarations, resolutions or other decisions being considered by delegates should not be described as adopted until the Regional Committee formally acts on them.
