A complaint has been submitted to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption requesting an investigation into the conduct of three Supreme Court judges in connection with proceedings relating to compensation from the X-Press Pearl maritime disaster.
The complaint was submitted by Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa on behalf of the Medical and Civil Rights Professional Association of Doctors.
The organisation has asked CIABOC to examine the judges' conduct in relation to Supreme Court proceedings concerning compensation arising from the X-Press Pearl disaster.
The complaint contains allegations concerning the handling of compensation and claims that the conduct in question affected the recovery of substantial sums.
Those assertions are allegations made by the complainant. They are not findings by CIABOC or by another court.
Media reports cite a figure approaching US$999 million in describing the complainant's broader allegations. That figure should not be presented as an independently established loss caused by the judges.
