Former Lanka Mineral Sands Limited chairman Udeni Dassanayake has been released on bail following his arrest in an investigation into alleged irregular recruitment at the state-owned company.
The Colombo Chief Magistrate ordered that Dassanayake be released on two personal bail bonds of Rs.2 million each.
The court also imposed an overseas travel ban.
The case is scheduled to be called again on November 20.
Recruitment allegations
CIABOC is investigating the recruitment of casual workers to Lanka Mineral Sands Limited during 2023 and 2024.
Investigators allege that workers were recruited outside approved procedures and beyond the authorised cadre for labour positions.
CIABOC alleges that the resulting salary payments amounted to Rs.34,438,650.42, causing a financial loss to the state-owned enterprise and providing an undue benefit to the people recruited.
Bail does not determine the allegations
The allegations have not been established by a final judicial determination.
Dassanayake's arrest and subsequent release on bail are procedural developments in the investigation and should not be presented as proof either of guilt or exoneration.
