Sri Lanka Police have imposed restraining orders covering properties and vehicles worth more than Rs.125 million in two investigations into assets allegedly connected to narcotics trafficking.
In one investigation, the Illegal Assets Investigation Division restrained assets valued at more than Rs.90 million belonging to a suspect from the Wattala area.
Police said the assets include houses and land in Hunupitiya and surrounding areas and a Suzuki Spacia vehicle valued at approximately Rs.8 million.
A 14-day restraining order took effect on September 17, preventing the assets from being sold, transferred or otherwise disposed of while the investigation continues.
In a separate investigation, police restrained a Toyota SUV valued at more than Rs.35 million belonging to a suspect from Thanamalwila.
That investigation followed a complaint from the Director of the Police Narcotic Bureau, with the vehicle restraining order taking effect on September 16.
The investigations are proceeding under anti-money-laundering legislation.
A restraining order is an investigative/legal measure preventing disposal of an asset. It is not equivalent to permanent confiscation following a criminal conviction, and the alleged criminal origin and ownership links remain subject to investigation and legal determination.
