The Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court has fixed November 11 for the case involving former President Ranil Wickremesinghe and former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake over allegations concerning misuse of public funds.

Both Wickremesinghe and Ekanayake appeared before court when the case was taken up on September 30.

The case concerns allegations that approximately Rs.16.6 million in public funds was misused in connection with a visit to England.

Senior State Counsel appearing for the Attorney General informed court that the Criminal Investigation Department had completed its investigation and forwarded the relevant investigation material to the Attorney General's Department.

The material is being studied to determine the next legal step.

The court therefore fixed the matter for November 11, when the Attorney General's position is expected to be communicated.

The completion of the CID investigation does not mean that the allegations have been proved.

The Attorney General has not yet announced the final legal action to be taken.

The November 11 hearing is therefore the next procedural stage rather than a trial verdict, conviction or termination of the case.
