The Tangalle High Court has granted bail to Sampath Manamperi in connection with the case involving alleged possession of a live hand grenade.
The bail application was taken up before Tangalle High Court Judge Pradeep M. Abeyratne.
Manamperi was released on:
- Rs.10,000 cash bail; and
- two sureties of Rs.250,000 each.
Background
Manamperi had been remanded over allegations concerning possession of a live hand grenade.
Police had earlier arrested him during an investigation involving weapons and a stock of chemicals suspected of being associated with the manufacture of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice.”
Police subsequently recovered a live grenade from a house in the Middeniya area following questioning carried out under a detention order obtained from the Walasmulla Magistrate's Court.
The bail application concerned the case pending before the Walasmulla Magistrate's Court.
The grant of bail does not end the prosecution, amount to an acquittal, or establish innocence or guilt. Related weapons and suspected drug-manufacturing chemical claims remain allegations.
