Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa has been directed to appear before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division on September 24 to provide a statement in connection with an investigation involving financial transactions linked to Siriliya Saviya.
Reports state that the FCID has resumed investigations into the matter and issued a notice requiring Rajapaksa to appear before investigators on the specified date.
The notice was reportedly initially sent to her residence in Tangalle.
Rajapaksa subsequently travelled to Singapore, and reports state that a notice concerning the September 24 appearance was served at Bandaranaike International Airport before her departure.
The investigation includes inquiries relating to approximately Rs.10 million reportedly provided by the National Savings Bank for the stated purpose of obtaining scanning equipment for the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children.
Investigators are examining the handling and use of those funds and related transactions.
Reports citing investigators state that inquiries are examining whether the intended equipment was purchased using those funds and the circumstances surrounding equipment subsequently provided to the hospital.
These matters remain allegations and subjects of an ongoing investigation.
A direction to appear before the FCID to provide a statement does not mean that Shiranthi Rajapaksa has been arrested, charged with an offence or found responsible for wrongdoing.
