The Supreme Court has ruled that former Minister A.H.M. Fowzie violated fundamental rights by using for personal purposes a vehicle provided by the Netherlands for Sri Lanka's disaster-management activities.
The Court ordered Fowzie to pay Rs.6.6 million to the Consolidated Fund.
Reported payment directions require Rs.1,664,334.93 to be paid within one month and the balance within two months.
The Court also ordered him to publish half-page apologies on the front pages of Silumina, Sunday Observer and Thinakaran within one month.
This is a final Supreme Court fundamental-rights finding.
