Welikada Prison Officer Arrested After Ice and Heroin Allegedly Found Hidden in Shoes

A prison officer attached to Welikada Prison has been arrested after drugs were allegedly discovered concealed inside his shoes while he was at the prison.

Police said the substances were detected during a search by prison officers at the main entrance following information received by authorities.

According to the police-attributed account, officers recovered approximately 96 grams of ice and 16.7 grams of heroin from the footwear worn by the prison officer.

The suspect and the recovered substances were subsequently handed over for further police investigation and legal action.

Borella Police are conducting further investigations.

However, the investigation must determine the full circumstances surrounding the alleged attempt, including the intended destination or recipient of the substances and any wider involvement.

The officer has been arrested on allegations and has not been convicted of drug trafficking or another offence merely by virtue of the arrest.
