SLMC National List MP M.S. Abdul Wahid Resigns; Parliament Notifies Election Commission of Vacancy

Sri Lanka Muslim Congress National List Member of Parliament M.S. Abdul Wahid has resigned from Parliament with effect from 14 September 2026.

Acting Secretary-General of Parliament Hansa Abeyratne formally informed the Chairman of the Election Commission that the resignation had created a vacancy in the Tenth Parliament.

The notification was made in accordance with Section 64(5) of the Parliamentary Elections Act No. 1 of 1981.

The resignation therefore creates a National List vacancy that will have to be dealt with through the applicable legal and electoral process.
