The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber-level marine advisory warning of strong winds and rough sea conditions in several sea areas around Sri Lanka.
The advisory was issued at 10:30 AM on September 4, 2026 and is valid until 10:30 AM on September 5, 2026.
The September 4 advisory covers sea areas extending from Kankesanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
Strong gusty winds of approximately 50-60 kilometres per hour may occur at times in the affected waters.
Sea conditions in these areas are also expected to become rough at times.
The warning is particularly important for fishing and naval communities operating in the affected sea areas.
People engaged in maritime activities are advised to remain vigilant and pay close attention to subsequent forecasts and advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology.
Marine weather warnings can change as wind and sea conditions develop.
People planning fishing or other small-vessel activity should therefore check the latest official forecast before going to sea.
This warning concerns specific offshore areas and should not be confused with the Department's general daily weather forecast for conditions over land.
