Cabinet has approved the commencement of procurement for eight additional automated passenger-clearance gates at Bandaranaike International Airport.
Four gates had previously been approved, meaning the additional procurement would take the planned total to 12.
The automated clearance facility is currently available to Sri Lankan nationals.
The Government plans to extend access to arriving and departing foreign nationals in conjunction with the planned e-passport programme.
This is a procurement approval.
It should not be reported as though eight additional gates have already been installed or become operational.
