Cabinet has approved the award of a contract worth approximately €4.93 million to Germany's Mühlbauer ID Services GmbH for the supply of five million pre-printed polycarbonate cards for Sri Lankan National Identity Cards.
The procurement was conducted through an international competitive procurement procedure.
Eight bids were received.
The German company was identified as the substantially responsive bidder and Cabinet approved the contract award.
Five million cards
The procurement covers five million pre-printed polycarbonate cards intended for the issuance of National Identity Cards.
Polycarbonate is widely used for secure identity documents because multiple data and security features can be integrated into the card structure.
However, this procurement concerns the supply of the physical card component.
It should not by itself be described as completion or full implementation of Sri Lanka's wider digital-identity programme.
Contract value
The approved contract value is approximately €4.93 million.
The publication package should not infer a delivery timetable, per-card issuance date or completion date unless those details are confirmed in the underlying procurement decision.
