The Government is preparing to begin removing unauthorised constructions along the Colombo District coastal belt during September, according to Environment Minister Dr. Dhammika Patabendi.
The Minister said the programme will cover the coastal stretch from Galle Face to the Bolgoda River.
The area has been divided into five zones for the operation.
According to the Minister, legal advice regarding the removal process has already been obtained from the Attorney General.
The programme concerns structures identified as unauthorised constructions within the relevant coastal area.
The announcement provides stronger official confirmation of a broader coastal-enforcement programme after earlier reports had referred more narrowly to structures between Bambalapitiya and Dehiwala.
However, the previously reported claim that affected structures must be removed by September 10 has not been adequately established through the Minister's confirmed statement.
That deadline has therefore not been inserted into this article.
Similarly, the programme should not be read as meaning that every hotel, business or structure along the Galle Face-Bolgoda coastline is unauthorised or subject to demolition.
Enforcement applies to structures determined by the competent authorities to fall within the relevant unauthorised category.
Further operational details, including the precise properties affected and the timetable for individual zones, should be reported when officially confirmed.
