The Government's “Diviyata Saviyak” programme provides housing assistance of up to Rs.2 million per eligible beneficiary for specified groups facing housing insecurity.
The programme builds on an earlier initiative supporting people reintegrating into society after institutional care.
Cabinet-approved eligible groups include people below 45 years of age who left institutional care at or before age 18 and do not have a stable and safe home.
It also covers specified vulnerable families with children who lack safe housing, as well as certain young people currently remaining in child-development centres because they have been unable to reintegrate into society.
Assistance may be used, subject to the programme's rules, for purposes including:
- purchasing land and constructing a house;
- constructing a house on land already owned;
- purchasing a house; or
- renovating an existing house.
Targeted eligibility
This is not a universal Rs.2 million grant for young adults. Assistance depends on the specified beneficiary groups and assessment criteria; leaving institutional care does not automatically guarantee the maximum amount.
