Cabinet Approves Inaugural Presidential Road Safety Awards for 2026

Sri Lanka's Cabinet has approved a proposal to hold the country's first Presidential Road Safety Awards as a national initiative under the Road Safety Action Plan 2025–2026.

The programme is intended to recognise individuals, public institutions, private organisations and other groups that have made significant contributions to road safety.

Proposed awards

Selected recipients are expected to receive merit awards and Presidential awards.

The Government says the initiative is also intended to:

  • increase public awareness of road safety;
  • encourage responsible road behaviour; and
  • strengthen public participation in road-safety programmes.

The Government plans to consider making the awards an annual event, associated with the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, which is observed on the third Sunday of November.
