The Indian Navy frigate INS Udaygiri arrived at the Port of Colombo on 8 September 2026 for an official visit and was received by the Sri Lanka Navy.
The vessel is a 149.02-metre frigate commanded by Captain Vikas Sood.
Captain Sood previously served as Defence Adviser at the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka from July 2020 to October 2023.
Programme in Sri Lanka
During the ship's stay:
- its commanding officer is scheduled to meet the Commander Western Naval Area;
- personnel will participate in goodwill activities;
- Sri Lanka Navy personnel are expected to visit the vessel for capability observation and professional knowledge-sharing; and
- onboard training activities are planned.
The Sri Lanka Navy described the visit as part of efforts to strengthen professional ties and cooperation between the two navies.
