EDOTCO Services Lanka (Private) Limited has signed a US$10 million investment agreement with the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka to expand shared telecommunications infrastructure.
The investment programme is planned over 30 months.
Planned rollout
EDOTCO says the programme is expected to include:
- 130 macro towers
- 300 multi-purpose smart lamp poles
- 650 energy sites
The infrastructure is intended to support greater network coverage, network expansion and infrastructure sharing among mobile operators.
Why it matters
Shared telecommunications infrastructure can allow multiple mobile-network operators to use common sites rather than duplicating physical infrastructure.
EDOTCO says the programme is intended to support rising demand for reliable digital services and improve nationwide connectivity.
