Sri Lanka's Inland Revenue Department has reminded taxpayers that the deadline for the final income-tax payment for the 2025/26 Year of Assessment is September 30, 2026.
The notice applies to taxpayers with final income tax due, including relevant:
- Corporate Income Tax
- Individual Income Tax; and
- Partnership Income Tax
obligations.
It should not be interpreted as meaning every Sri Lankan resident necessarily has a tax payment due on September 30.
Late payments can attract interest and penalties
The Inland Revenue Department warns that failure to make tax payments by the applicable deadline may result in interest and penalties.
Taxpayers should ensure that payments are made using the correct:
- Taxpayer Identification Number
- tax type
- Year of Assessment; and
- Document Identification Number where required.
The Department has also advised taxpayers using relevant bank-payment methods without a preprinted paying-in slip to include the appropriate DIN so the payment can be correctly identified.
Payment deadline is different from TIN-certificate requirement
This September 30 deadline should not be confused with the separate November 1 TIN-certificate requirement recently announced for specified transactions.
The two obligations concern different matters.
The September 30 notice concerns final income-tax payments for taxpayers with an outstanding final liability for the 2025/26 Year of Assessment.
The November 1 measure concerns presentation or verification of a TIN certificate for specified transactions such as certain banking, vehicle, property and business-registration activities.
