Sri Lanka's Cabinet has approved the relevant strategic-investment designation connected to a planned US$112.2 million mixed-use waterfront development by Prime Melwa at Colombo Port City.
The proposed development combines residential, commercial and recreational facilities within the Port City development.
The investment has been reported at approximately US$112.2 million, while the project is expected to generate around 800 employment opportunities over the coming years.
The Cabinet action concerns designation under the Colombo Port City Economic Commission framework, under which qualifying businesses may receive approved incentives or exemptions.
The development adds to the pipeline of large-scale projects planned within the Colombo Port City Special Economic Zone.
However, Cabinet approval or strategic-investment designation should not be interpreted as meaning that the entire US$112.2 million has already entered Sri Lanka.
Likewise, the approximately 800 jobs are a projected outcome of implementation rather than jobs already created.
Actual investment inflows, construction progress and employment will depend on implementation of the project.
