The Sri Lankan Government says a further reduction in fuel prices could be considered next month, although no new price adjustment has yet been announced.
Cabinet Spokesman and Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa made the statement at the Cabinet decisions media briefing on September 1.
Jayatissa said the Government is working to reduce fuel prices while managing the prevailing situation and intends to provide relief to the public as circumstances permit.
He said it was not possible to reduce the prices of all fuel categories, including petrol, diesel and kerosene, simultaneously.
However, he said the Government could consider a further fuel-price reduction next month.
The statement is an indication of Government policy intention rather than a confirmed fuel-price decision.
No new petrol, diesel or kerosene prices were announced as part of the statement, and no particular reduction was guaranteed.
Consumers should therefore continue to rely on formal price announcements from the relevant authorities for actual retail fuel prices.
