The Sri Lankan rupee weakened further against the US dollar on September 17, according to Central Bank exchange-rate data.
The US dollar selling rate increased to approximately Rs.336.92, compared with Rs.335.48 previously.
The buying rate increased from Rs.326.31 to Rs.327.90.
The daily movement represents a further weakening of the rupee against the US dollar.
However, a movement over a single trading day should not by itself be used to establish a broader cause or long-term currency trend.
Exchange rates can respond to multiple factors, including demand for foreign currency, import payments, export and service-sector inflows, capital movements and broader international financial conditions.
