Applications have opened for re-scrutiny of the 2026 Grade 5 Scholarship Examination results, following the release of the results by Sri Lanka's Department of Examinations.
Candidates and parents seeking a review of results should follow the procedure specified by the Department of Examinations and the relevant school authorities.
Re-scrutiny allows a candidate to request a review under the Department's established examination procedures. It does not mean the original results have been cancelled or that all marks will necessarily change.

Original results
The 2026 Grade 5 Scholarship Examination was held on August 9, and the results were released on September 2.
Commissioner General of Examinations A.K.S. Indika Kumari Liyanage said 294,132 students applied for the examination and 289,867 candidates sat for it.
Around 56,000 candidates scored above the cut-off mark, according to the Commissioner General.
The highest mark recorded in the Sinhala medium was 193, achieved by a student from the Kurunegala District.
The highest mark in the Tamil medium was 188, achieved by a student from the Jaffna District.
The Department has made the results available through its official online examination-results system.
Reports also state that 20,000 scholarships are to be awarded, including 250 reserved for students with special needs.
Cut-off requirements depend on factors including district and medium of instruction, meaning the approximately 56,000 students above the reported threshold should not be interpreted as meaning that all of them will receive scholarships.
The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has separately urged parents and others not to subject children to punishment or psychological abuse based on their examination results and asked that results not be publicised in ways that could embarrass or distress children.
Ministry warns against punishing children over results
September 2 update: The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has urged parents and guardians not to punish or psychologically abuse children because of their Grade 5 Scholarship Examination results.
The warning was issued after the 2026 examination results were released.
The Ministry said children should not be subjected to physical punishment or psychological abuse because of their examination performance.
It also cautioned media organisations and social-media users against publishing or circulating result-related material in a way that could embarrass, distress or cause discomfort to children.
The Ministry warned that conduct amounting to child abuse could lead to legal action.
The warning should be understood as a child-protection message following the release of the examination results.
