Sri Lanka's Department of Examinations has released the results of the 2026 Grade 5 Scholarship Examination.
The examination was held on August 9.
Commissioner General of Examinations A.K.S. Indika Kumari Liyanage said 294,132 students applied for the examination and 289,867 candidates sat for it.
Around 56,000 candidates scored above the cut-off mark, according to the Commissioner General.
The highest mark recorded in the Sinhala medium was 193, achieved by a student from the Kurunegala District.
The highest mark in the Tamil medium was 188, achieved by a student from the Jaffna District.
The Department has made the results available through its official online examination-results system.
Reports also state that 20,000 scholarships are to be awarded, including 250 reserved for students with special needs.
Cut-off requirements depend on factors including district and medium of instruction, meaning the approximately 56,000 students above the reported threshold should not be interpreted as meaning that all of them will receive scholarships.
The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has separately urged parents and others not to subject children to punishment or psychological abuse based on their examination results and asked that results not be publicised in ways that could embarrass or distress children.
