The Sri Lanka Navy says it seized approximately 821 kilograms of Kendu leaves during separate operations in the Puttalam area on the night of September 21.
Two suspects and two dinghies were also taken into custody during the operations.
The searches were conducted in the Gangewadiya lagoon area and the Serakkuliya beach area in Puttalam.
Separate operations
According to the Navy, the operations targeted suspected smuggling activity involving Kendu leaves brought into Sri Lanka by sea.
The approximately 821-kilogram total represents the combined quantity recovered during the separate searches.
The two suspects and seized material are subject to the applicable legal process.
Continuing smuggling pattern
The operation follows another recent Navy interception involving more than 800 kilograms of Kendu leaves off the Negombo area.
The Puttalam seizure is a separate operation, involving different locations and seizures, but forms part of the same recent pattern of maritime interceptions involving Kendu leaves.
