The Police Illegal Assets Investigation Division has moved to freeze property valued at approximately Rs.35 million in an investigation into assets allegedly acquired using proceeds from drug trafficking.
Police said the property allegedly belongs to remanded suspect Lathuwahandi Sujeewa Ruwan Kumara de Silva, known as “Loku Patty.”
The property consists of a 15-perch plot of land and a house in the Keppetiyagahalanda area of Matugama.
Investigators suspect that the property was acquired using proceeds generated through narcotics trafficking.
The Illegal Assets Investigation Division is continuing the investigation.
Asset freeze does not establish guilt
The freezing of property is an investigative and legal measure intended to prevent the disposal or transfer of an asset while its alleged origins are investigated.
It does not by itself establish that the property was purchased with criminal proceeds, nor does it amount to final confiscation following a conviction.
The alleged connection between the property and narcotics proceeds therefore remains subject to investigation and legal proceedings.
