Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage has won the men's javelin title at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship Budapest 26, producing a 91.09-metre throw in the final round.
Pathirage initially moved into the lead with 87.11m in the third round before improving dramatically with his final attempt.
Two-time world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada finished second with 86.18m, while European champion Julian Weber of Germany was third with 85.89m.
The result adds another major international title to Pathirage's breakthrough 2026 season.
Competition identity
This was the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship, the sport’s new elite “champion of champions” competition, not the conventional World Athletics Championships.
