Sri Lankan javelin thrower Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage has made history by winning the men's javelin title at the 2026 Diamond League Final in Brussels.
Tharanga produced a best throw of 89.04 metres to win the competition.
His winning mark came in the third round.
Poland's Dawid Wegner finished second with a personal-best throw of 87.47 metres, while Trinidad and Tobago's Keshorn Walcott placed third with 83.99 metres.
The victory makes Tharanga the first Sri Lankan athlete to win a Diamond League Final title.
Tharanga opened the competition with throws of 80.42m and 79.73m before moving into the lead with his 89.04m third attempt.
He subsequently recorded throws of 85.96m and 85.76m before fouling his final attempt.
The result completes another major achievement in a breakthrough international season for the Sri Lankan athlete.
Earlier in the season, Tharanga established himself among the world's leading men's javelin throwers and produced throws beyond 90 metres.
His Diamond League Final victory should be distinguished from winning an individual regular-season Diamond League meeting: the Brussels competition was the season Final, where the overall Diamond League title was decided.
