Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage continued his outstanding 2026 season by winning the men's javelin at the Zurich Diamond League with a throw of 92.07 metres.
Tharanga produced the winning mark on his sixth and final attempt at the Letzigrund Stadium in Zurich.
Grenada's Anderson Peters finished second with 86.93m, while Poland's Dawid Wegner was third with 85.16m.
Final throw goes beyond 92 metres
Tharanga opened the competition with 81.50m before improving to 88.23m in the second round and 89.90m in the third.
He remained in front before producing his best throw with his final attempt.
The javelin landed at 92.07m, securing victory and putting him close to Zurich's long-standing meeting record.
The official Zurich Diamond League report states that the throw was narrowly short of the 92.28m meeting record.
Not his national record
Although 92.07m is one of the biggest throws of Tharanga's career, it is not his personal or Sri Lankan national record.
His personal best is 92.62m, achieved at the Rome Diamond League on 4 June 2026.
The official Diamond League athlete record lists 92.62m as both his personal best and season's best.
Four consecutive Diamond League victories
Tharanga's Zurich success completed a run of four consecutive Diamond League meeting victories.
His 2026 Diamond League results include:
- Rabat — second, 85.97m
- Rome — first, 92.62m
- Doha — first, 88.68m
- Lausanne — first, 88.14m
- Zurich — first, 92.07m
The official Diamond League profile records him as a four-time Diamond League meeting winner.
A major season for Sri Lankan athletics
Repeated victories on the Diamond League circuit have established Tharanga among the leading men's javelin throwers of the 2026 season.
The Zurich performance was his second throw beyond 92 metres this year, following his 92.62m performance in Rome.
