The 48-hour strike launched by several Sri Lankan railway trade unions ended at midnight on September 18 after disrupting railway operations for two days.
The industrial action had begun at midnight on September 17 and was scheduled from the outset to continue for 48 hours.
On its second day, railway authorities said they were continuing to operate a number of services, including office trains, despite the industrial action.
Trade unions said their central grievances had not been satisfactorily resolved and warned that further industrial action could be considered if their demands remain unaddressed.
No new strike should be reported as having been called unless the unions formally announce one.
Loss estimate remains a union claim
Union representatives estimated that the Railway Department incurred more than Rs.40 million in losses during the two days and put the broader loss at more than Rs.60 million.
Those figures are union estimates and should not be presented as independently audited Railway Department losses.
