Sri Lanka's Cabinet has approved a five-year scientific research collaboration between Uva Wellassa University and Germany's Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ).
The research project is titled:
“Spatio Coexistence – Towards a Spatial Coexistence Theory for Species Rich Communities.”
It will focus on biodiversity, plant communities and ecosystem dynamics.
Uva Wellassa role
Under the proposed agreement, Uva Wellassa University will participate as a specialist research partner responsible for scientific work and ecological data collection.
The university is expected to receive funding of up to €50,000 over the five-year period for the agreed work.
The collaboration is also intended to support:
- exchange of scientific knowledge;
- access to modern research methods;
- development of local research capacity; and
- joint scientific publications.
Cabinet approval
Cabinet approved the arrangement following a proposal submitted by the Prime Minister in her capacity as Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education.
